Farm buildings and structures
You don’t need permission from council to install or construct farm buildings and structures for the purpose of an agricultural activity if:
- They are constructed or installed on land in Zones RU1, RU2, RU3 or RU4 only
Number
- If the structure is a shipping container there can only be 1 per lot
Size
- No higher than 7m above ground level
- An are no more than
- 0.5ha if it is a stockyard
- 200sqm if it is any other building or structure
Location
- A minimum of 20m from the primary road frontage of the lot
- A minimum of 10m from all other lot boundaries
- A minimum of 50m from a house on an adjoining property
- A minimum of 50m from a natural waterbody
Other
- Any metal components are to be designed by, and constructed in accordance with the specifications of, a professional engineer
- If the structure is a silo it cannot be fitted with a motorized fan for aeration or drying purposes
You will need permissions to install or construct farm buildings and structures for the purpose of an agricultural activity if:
- You do not meet all of the above requirements
- The property is identified as a listed heritage item or a draft heritage item
- The structure is a silo which is fitted with a motorized fan for aeration or drying purposes
