Barbecues and other outdoor cooking structures
You don’t need permission from council to install or built barbecues and other outdoor cooking structures if:
- It has an area of no more than 4m2
- It is no more than 1.8m above the ground level
- It is located at least 450mm from each boundary
- It is behind the building line of any road frontage if your property is in Zones RU1, RU2, RU3 or RU4
You do need permission for barbecues and other outdoor cooking structures if:
- You do not meet all of the above requirement
- The barbecue or other outdoor cooking structure is to be used for commercial purposes
